RARE FRIDAY HEARING SCHEDULED IN HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE
(07-18-08) - At first when the Kucinich impeachment article was formally introduced in the house with all Democrats voting for it; it appeared that the chairman of the Judiciary Committee was going to side step the impeachment issue even though 9 Republicans voted for it as well. Congressman John Conyers made a point of saying it would be about abuse of power instead of impeachment, but now the trickle of information coming out about this bill and what the committee will do seems to indicate it might be about impeachment of President Bush over the war issues after all.
It is known that the meeting is set for 10:00 a.m. on July 25 and the word impeachment is on the agenda description. Main stream media has been very quiet and has ignored this story almost completely in sharp contrast to the sexual overtones in the Impeachment coverage of former President Bill Clinton. Could the media think people dying, under false pretenses and lying by the administration is not as important as Bill allowing a young woman to do intimate things to him in his office late at night? We do know we plan to cover this impeachment hearing in the committee live if at possible later this month.

In another interesting chapter in US political history, the Republicans selected the one person that most of their base does not support, John McCain. The Democrats had a food fight for almost a full year between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, both with high negatives, with Obama running as the change candidate. The mood of the party was for change but when Obama voted for war funding to continue, the FISA bill with a feeble attempt at playing both sides by voting for amendments that he knew would be defeated, and his stand on capital punishment, the liberals are wondering if they have been had again. Our election consultant Jerry Wilhite, who is a liberal columnist for our www.bushbusiness.com noted that even though he is still supporting Obama, it appears that the establishment inside the Democratic Party which had jumped on the Obama bandwagon knew what they were doing: "Obama probably will be pretty much status quo, with a little more concern for the people instead of the special interests, hopefully." What about a third party? Well hyper-conservative former Georgia Congressman Bob Barr sewed up the Libertarian Party nomination pushing that party to the fringe and now we have a hip hop artist as Vice Presidential candidate to Green Party nominee Cynthia McKinney. McKinney, like Barr, is from Georgia and like Barr who left the Republican Party, McKinney left the Democratic party. Now we hear rumors of a movement afoot to change the Super Delegate's minds on Obama. Clinton endeared herself to many liberals who were suspicious of her motives and felt that Obama would support their causes. Hillary switched the playing-field odds with liberals with a single vote ..she voted against the FISA bill last week that gave immunity to tel-com executives who spied on internet and phone traffic in search of terrorists. It is noted that this search was very profitable as the government paid top dollar rates in toll charges to the phone companies to do the spying. How will the rapper ticket play with the public? McKinney's name has been pirated by an opposition group, definitely not on Cynthia's fan club list, so don't bother to check out www.cynthiamckinney.com, it's not nice to her. Just another example of the high strangeness of the campaign for the White House 2008. Jerry

Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama will make a joint public appearance next week for the first time since she ended her White House bid.
Clinton's national finance director, Jonathan Mantz, sent top donors an invitation Tuesday for a June 26 meeting in Washington, D.C. featuring both former rivals. Mantz also asked Clinton donors to show unity by giving Obama $2,300, the maximum donation allowable under federal campaign finance laws. He added that Clinton, "...will do everything she can to unify the party and to elect Barack Obama the next President of the United States." |
Clinton endorses ObamaSen. Hillary Clinton officially suspended her campaign in a speech today and endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for president. "I endorse him and throw my full support behind him. And I ask all of you to join me in working as hard for Barack Obama as you have for me," Clinton said to a cheering crowd in Washington.

As the late night settles the mind and we head for the dawn of the first day of primary free America, it is interesting to note first of all. The Republican party is a damaged brand and they would dare pick a candidate who alienates their base, the conservatives. John McCain was there last night spinning his tale of changing the war dynamic and being the man who thinks the status quo is just fine. Hillary Clinton still spunky in defeat with a final tally of votes that seemed like anything but a loser, losing evidently to a group of party regulars who were going for the change man, instead of the company woman. Then there was Obama himself, brilliant but yet battling a battle he has fought all his life, the unspoken concerns about his racial make up. Something he had nothing to do with, yet, is evident in all of its ugliness to many. However his words are lofty and his intentions of working together and changing politics as we know it does play well and no one is better at telling the story and making the pitch.
It will indeed be an interesting campaign year. How it plays out no one knows for sure. It does seem that the Republican Party has been driven to the unbelievably low support numbers by its fringe leaders of the past decade or so, and it does seem the Democrats who had a lock on everything have gone with the two candidates who have the most negatives. But when you look closer, Barack is powerful in looks and stature, Hillary reaches out and touches those who want to hate her with her determination and devotion and McCain, seems to have began to patch up his support with his base.
Two things are evident tonight. The odds are slim and to none that Chelsea Clinton will be the first daughter of two Presidents..notice we said chances are slim, I would never count a Clinton out and the second thing is evident as well, three of the most unlikely ..political figures with high negatives..all three ..but for certain, one will probably be President come next January 20, 2009.
|
Barack Obama spoke before 18,000 in St. Paul saying he is the nominee of the Democratic Party. Hillary Clinton says no concession for tonight. Most experts consider Obama with a lock on the nomination even though technically both Clinton and Obama are hundreds of votes short of the needed 2118 for nomination. The question in the coming days is will Hillary get the Vice President spot and if so, what will Obama do with Bill? Clinton's husband is a former President and many people think this alone would stop Obama from choosing her. However she did get 18 million votes in the primary.
| Pledged Delegates | - | 3434 | 1750.5 | 1624.5 |
Primary Season is over and you will hear much about Barack Obama winning the nomination tonight. He very well could have but the actual pledged delegate count is far from the needed number. Another negative for Obama is that no Democrat in the history of the primary season has lost as many states to an opponent and still won the nomination and the office itself. But this is no ordinary year and the Change train left the station from the opening salvo of political-speak and has been the overriding theme for the entire campaign, much to the benefit of the Senator from Illinois.
After all of the Primary and Caucuses, Barack Obama has 1764.5 delegates and Hillary Clinton has 1,640.5. Last night's win in South Dakota for Hillary and the win in Montana for Obama gave them 16 and 14 more delegates respectively.

WHAT GOES? ARE THE VOTES BEING COUNTED OR NOT?

(9:00 P.M. 6-2-08) Columnist Jerry Wilhite ponders this election season, the candidates and the supporters:
I want to weigh in on this DNC thing regarding Florida and Michigan. If I don’t believe, and I absolutely don’t, that Presidents and Vice-Presidents are above the law, and the United States Constitution, why any other body?
Possibly I place too much value on the value of my vote, but I have many relatives who died heroically that felt they were securing that right forever. Their deaths, as well as hundreds of thousands of others should not be secondary to the wishes of a national political party, whether it is Republican, Democrat, Whig, or Tory. MY vote is real and must be counted.
The very idea that parties feel they have the right to control elections in any way seems very wrong to me. What happened to the people? Who ever gave a group of like-minded citizens the right to dispel the wishes of the electorate, The Soviets did. Nazi’s did. Americans, never did, to my knowledge.
When we vote and how we vote is secondary to those manipulating elections for whatever reason. Their job is to protect the sanctity of those votes, establish paper trails, and count them afterwards to see nobody stole an election. Super delegates, conventions are just trappings granted to those who work for a selected party or candidate. It, in no way, reduces or ridicules the power of the votes of WE, the people, and that’s what all these politicos better understand. WE are tired of not being heard!!
JUNE
COMES IN LIKE A

(6-1-08) Hillary
Clinton
wins
Puerto Rico
with huge
margins. She
will pick up the
majority of the
55 delegates
from
Puerto Rico
for the
convention fight
still looking
for the
Democrats in
August in
Denver. Clinton
forces had hoped
for a huge
turnout but this
turned out not
to be the case.
On a warm
Sunday on the
Islands, fewer
than a million
voters turned
out to vote.
One of the
reasons for the
Clinton campaign
lingering even
though opponent
Barack Obama
leads her and
has for some
time in
the delegate
count, is the
Clinton argument
that she got
more popular
votes than
Obama, which is
true, but
Puerto Rico
as a territory
can not vote in
the national
election in
November.
Clinton
gets cheated on
delegate count in
Michigan?
Obama forces say she
is ahead because the
rules committee
allowed delegates to
be counted as
half-votes and will
be seated.
Meanwhile Obama has preacher problems and has announced he is resigning from his church. Obama submits letter of resignation and says it would be unfair to the church and to him for the pastor to be held up to election standards every Sunday morning.

Harold
Ickes, speaking on
behalf of
Hillary Clinton
asked, "Was this
decision flawed?
You bet your ass it
was flawed. Florida
delegation is cut in
half by the DNC.
You cannot take
delegates from
Clinton and give
them to Obama. Mrs.
Clinton is going to
take this to the
Credentials
Committee."
According to
CBS News
delegate
estimates, Obama
needs a total of
69 more party
delegates to
reach the new
threshold
established by
the inclusion of
the delegations
of both
Florida
and
Michigan.
Our most
optimistic
prediction
tonight before
the
Puerto Rico
Primary on
Sunday and the
South Dakota
and
Montana
Primaries on
Tuesday is that
Obama will be
only single
digits away from
the new total.
Obama and Clinton bargained and bickered through intermediaries during the meeting of the party’s Rules and Bylaws Committee, settling on compromises in both states that will seat their full delegations at the national convention, but giving each individual delegate just one-half of a vote. Clinton picked up 19 more delegates than Obama in Florida and five more in Michigan, based on the January votes taken in those states. A word of caution to anyone predicting a winner before the
convention in
August is that
the super
delegates can
and might change
their mind at
the last minute.
Only pledged
delegates are
restricted from
changing their
mind before the
first ballot and
after that, if
there is not a
winner it then
becomes a
free-for-all
with each
delegate free to
switch or even
vote for another
person if that
person can get
nominated.
