AWARD WINNING PLAYWRIGHT BRINGS UFO PLAY, “TOP SECRET: MAJIC” TO LINE UP OF UFO FESTIVAL ACTIVITIES Roswell Community Little Theater to Host Two Radio Play Performances on July 5th at NMMI’s Pearson Auditorium During the 2009 Amazing UFO Festival For Immediate Release. June 11, 2009 (ROSWELL, N.M.) – Organizers for the 2009 Amazing Roswell UFO Festival are proud to announce the addition of a major new American play to the already exciting line-up of activities. Two showings of the world premier of the staged reading of TOP SECRET: MAJIC, written by Marty Martin and casted and directed by Carol Dishmand with the Roswell Community Little Theatre, will be performed at the NMMI Pearson Auditorium on Sunday, July 5th at 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. This riveting two-act play is staged during the summer of 1947 and is set in Roswell and Washington, D.C. The characters it brings to life include local citizens, military personnel and ranking officials in the nation’s capital who were among the first to become aware of the Roswell crash, all struggling to come to grips with the event’s shattering implications. Playwright Marty Martin’s award-winning productions have been staged on Broadway and by regional and university theater companies all over the country. Martin has been writing, directing, and producing plays professionally for 25 years, working intimately with such distinguished artists as Anthony Quinn, Cloris Leachman, Mickey Rooney, and Pat Carroll. Following the death of playwright Hugh Wheeler, Mr. Martin completed the book for the Broadway production of Meet Me In St. Louis, which was nominated for a Tony Award as Best Book for a Musical, praised by Time Magazine, Newsweek, Variety and the legendary New York Times theater critic Walter Kerr. Productions of Martin’s plays off Broadway have received both Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards, as well as a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Arts Recording. Mr. Martin was also the recipient of the Drama Logue Critics Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Theater. Martin’s plays Gertrude Stein Gertrude Stein Gertrude Stein, I Don't Want To Be a Zelda Anymore, and Shaviana enjoyed extended runs in New York. Regional productions of his plays, A Clown of God, the Necessary Luxury Company, Farewell Performance, Diaghilev, and The Bishop have been praised by critics throughout the Southwest. Martin’s plays have also been highly acclaimed in Los Angeles and San Francisco, Houston and Dallas, Minneapolis and Washington, D.C., as well as in Mexico, Iceland, Italy and Israel. Commissioned by Valerie Harper, The Dragon and the Pearl benefited greatly from the encouragement and assistance provided by the Pearl S. Buck Foundation. In addition, Marty Martin was resident playwright for the Stratford Festival Theater in Connecticut, sponsored by the American National Theater and Academy, where his plays Whitechapel, Shaviana, and The Bishop were performed by Julie Harris, Tammy Grimes, and Keir Dullea respectively.
