Main Street Inhabitants Debating for Executive Privilege
by Jerry Pippin
(11:00 p.m. Eastern 10-02-08) - Senator Joe Biden and Governor Sarah Palin both seemed to be able to hold their own on their own ideas. Relief that Sarah was still standing but she did say something that will come back to haunt her, "I have been at this only five weeks."
Palin pushed the idea that the Republican Party was the job for business creation, job creation even though the headlines every day seem to show a far different world. Palin did not embarrass anyone. She did show some folksy language but Biden while sophisticated did not let the audience forget that he was a man of the people as well. |

From Style both did fairly well ..both misspoke, Biden referred to Obama as Osama and she misspoke about Main Street and Wall Street. Both gaffs were not deal-breakers. Biden showed lots of style and got the best laugh when he referred to Bridge to Nowhere,.. Biden referring to McCain's 5,000 dollar hospitalization plan. Biden pointed out that Sarah passed a windfall tax against oil companies in Alaska.
Palin - that is not so..but I want to address this..instead was a tactic. Palin did not sell the audience, at least the ones in the Washington University crowd, that she was just a common Jane. Her family's income is well into six figures annually. Palin and her answer about Gay Marriage was interesting and seemed to be at odds with itself. Palin referenced Reagan three times including the there you go again, Joe.
Palin charged Obama and Biden with not funding the troops...John McCain voted the same way ..
time line - ten billion ... We will end this war..John McCain has no end in sight.. Lets don't talk about past mistakes Sarah said..and in fact Mrs. Palin did not answer a lot of the questions and stuck to her talking points and the attack. This debate was a different format and this was the reason perhaps she was able to do better than her TV interviews but more like her speech at the GOP convention.
Biden easily won on the Bush connection. Biden showed his style on foreign policy... John McCain is opposed.
Good reaction on education, students getting extra credit for watching the department. And for the Cheney model of no accountability..Biden said Cheney is the most dangerous VP in the history of the US. In summary evidently the cultural wars at least not tonight there as Palin soft-peddled abortion and Gay marriage, but she did express "evil is" and perhaps this is the most stark difference between Democrats and Republicans.
It was not a game-changer and she was forced to defend McCain and Bush when it came to the economy. Government's in the way and here we have an experience right now of Government should have been in the way. Politics in the 21st Century seems to need a reality check.
